GameKnight Summer News!

Our last Gameday/Pre-Release combo went very well and I want to let you know we’re doing it again July 9^th.  The new Magic 2012 set is releasing soon so we are hosting the Pre-release to help launch the product.  Since we rent the gym already it only makes sense to fill it.  And what else is better paired with gaming than more games?  Read on for more details:

GameKnight Game Day July 9^th

We got off to a good start with our first Game Day back in May, so we’re going to be doing it again July 9^th.  If you like board games be sure to come by and try one out.  We have many planned gaming activities as well as an open space for casual gaming.  We’ll be bringing piles of games for you to try.  We’ve also brought in some local game designers, board game company reps, and several of our regular customers to run you through some of our best games!

Here are the details:

• Location:       Churchill Park United Church (2nd floor gymnasium) 525 Beresford St (just down the street from GameKnight!).
• Start Time:        10 am start up time.  Some games are scheduled every 2 hours, and there is an area set aside for casual gaming.
• Finish time:       Well our last scheduled games will start at 8 pm and finish at 10 pm, but you’re welcome to stay until midnight.
• Cost:                $10 – and you get a food ticket for either lunch (at 1 pm) or dinner (at 8 pm) – plus $5 in GameKnight cash (for use at the store).
• Food:               Subs for lunch at 1 pm, and/or pizza for dinner at 8 pm.

 Some of the games we have already scheduled are:

·         10 am – 12 noon:     Star Trek Expeditions with Raymond Berg

·         10 am – 2 pm:         Dominion

·         10 am – 2 pm:         Axis & Allies

·         12 noon – 4 pm:       Ticket to Ride

·         12 noon -6 pm:        Munchkin Zombies, Cthulhu Dice & more – presented by Russell Martens, Steve Jackson Games Representative

·         2 pm – 4 pm:           Talisman

·         2 pm – 4 pm:          Descent

·         4 pm - 6 pm:           Formula D. – presented by John Reichel

·         6 pm – 10 pm:         RuneBound

·         6 pm – 8 pm:          Mansions of Madness presented by Darrell Oko

·         8 pm – 10pm+:        Good Help – presented by Sean Garrity

We’re still adding titles and time slots.  You can look forward to seeing other titles such as Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Bang (card game), Portable Galactic Empire, Red Dragon Inn, Dixit and many others!  Plus we’ll have a casual gaming ars.et aside with our demo games for you peruse through and try out.

Magic “2012” Pre-release Event July 9^th

Coming up right away is the Magic 2012 Pre-release event.  We’ve got a solid day of Magic planned for you, with back to back sealed main events and side events running all day long.

Magic 2012 Pre-Release Event #1 - Saturday July 9th - Format: Sealed

• Location:               Churchill Park United Church (2nd floor gymnasium) 525 Beresford St (just down the street from GameKnight!).
• Pre-registration:     At GameKnight anytime before Saturday
• Registration:         9:00 - 10:00 am At GameKnight if you have Credit Card or Debit, Cash will be accepted at the Venue.
• Tournament Start:  10:15 am
• Finish:                   5:00 pm (approximately)

        ·         Cost $40 - includes 6 boosters of Magic 2012, Lunch, a special promo item, and foil "Bloodlord of Vaasgoth" promo card.

• Prizes:  This will depend on attendance.  There will be 2 packs of Magic 2012 in our prize pool for every person in attendance.  These will be awarded to players who finish in the top half of the standings.  There will also be a GameKnight Shuffle, where we deal out a few packs of cards randomly to all who finish the qualifying rounds.

Magic 2012 Pre-Release Event #2 - Saturday July 9th - Format: 2-Headed Giant Sealed

• Location:               Churchill Park United Church (2nd floor gymnasium) 525 Beresford St (just down the street from Gameknight!).
• Pre-registration:     At GameKnight anytime before Saturday
• Registration:         9:00 - 6:00 pm At GameKnight if you have Credit Card or Debit, Cash will be accepted at the Venue.
• Tournament Start:  6:15 pm
• Finish:                   12:00 midnight (approximately)
• Cost $40 - includes 6 boosters of Magic 2012, Dinner, a special promo item, and foil " Bloodlord of Vaasgoth " promo card.

Magic 2012 Pre-Release Side Events

• Side Event:  Booster Draft:  we will have multiple booster drafts running after 1:00 pm (approximately).  Cost $20 (includes 3 boosters for draft plus prizes)
• Side Events: Open Dueling:  we will also be running open duelling throughout the day (11:00 am to midnight).  You will get a randomly picked intro pack, and then you play 5 games to earn another free booster of Magic 2012.  Cost $20.  People enrolled in Open Duelling will qualify to receive a foil promo DCI card ("Bloodlord of Vaasgoth " if there are any left from the main events).
• Spin & Win:  The wheel is back and we’re loading it up with all sorts of great cards.  $.50 per spin – everyone wins!
• ****NEW****   Land Toss:  We always have surplus Islands left after our sealed events and so we came up with an idea on how to use them – The Land Toss!  How good are your card-throwing skills?  Here is your chance to find out!  Toss the land into one of the buckets and win some cards.

Iron Die

We’ve just added a new product to our store called Iron Die.   IRONDIE is the coolest product we’ve seen in a while.  Solid metal dice with a very stylized pattern design by Italian Jewelers.  Who could go wrong?  Play the game or collect the dice and use them in your favourite boardgame, war game or RPG.

IRONDIE is a game which uses combinations of nine different types of dice, each with eight different colors. There are endless possibilities for creating personalized sets, so you can surprise your friends with new strategies and combinations every time.   IRONDIE dice are beautifully crafted and can also be used with existing board games, role-playing games or miniature wargames.   IRONDIE dice are made of silver-plated, white metal and covered with a colored translucent paint to highlight their metal luster. Their mass is much more substantive than any plastic or resin die, making for a unique gaming feel and experience.   IRONDIE is not a difficult game, but the difference between playing and mastering it lies in a player’s experience. A champion will have well-composed sets of dice and know how best to use them. The game is recommended for players of ages 13 and up.

 With an IRONDIE Basic monochrome blister (Base Blister) pack you will be able to challenge an opponent (who already has his or her own set of dice). After a few practice games you will want to increase your dice collection as well as your chances of winning by growing your collection with the Expansion sticks or other Base Blisters, or trading the dice you do not use with other collectors.   In some of the IRONDIE Expansion sticks you might find a Rare die, which, apart from having particularly powerful game abilities, will have more refined aesthetic features than a Common die. Consequently, the collecting and trading value of a Rare die is higher than that of a Common die.  

New Stuff

We have more new stuff – as always.  It seems there is always a new game every week, or an expansion set, supplement, or booster set.  Here’s a quick summary of some of the newest additions to our shelves:

• Star Trek Expeditions boardgame (Wizkids, $48.99 Sale priced $41.64) A cooperative game by Reiner Knizia, use Heroclix style miniatures to play this board game of Space Exploration.  Play as Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Uhura as the USS Enterprise enters orbit around planet Nibia.
• Magic The Gathering Commander, packs and singles (Wizards of the Coast, $39.99, singles priced individually) The multiplayer game of Magic that is sweeping the nation.  These special decks feature oversized foil commander cards and 51 new never before printed cards!
• Conquest of Nerath boardgame (Wizards of the Coast, $79.99)  A Risk style game set in the Dungeons & Dragons realm of Nerath.  A competitive game of military conquest.  The fate of empires is in your hands!
• Dominion deck building game expansion: Cornucopia (Rio Grande Games $26.99) and Big Box (Rio Grande Games $94.99) The new expansion adds even more cards to the immensely popular Dominion series.  The Dominion Big Box contains the core game plus the Prosperity and Alchemy expansions.  It’s a great way to get into this awesome game!
• Carcassonne Phantom Expansion (Rio Grande Games, $5.99) and Carcassonne Anniversary Edition (Rio Grande Games, $26.99)  The Phantom expansion gives you clear translucent meeples to add to your Carcassonne game, and the Anniversary edition is the core game in a box shaped like a giant meeple, and comes with “The Festival” mini expansion.
• Red Dragon Inn 3 (Slugfest Games, $34.99)  The 3^rd stand alone game in the series introduces 4 more characters.  Play it on its own or combine it with the other Red Dragon inns (yes, which are finally back in stock)!
• Seven Dragons (Loony Labs $14.99) A card game that plays like a tile laying game.  Quick and easy to learn it plays like its predecessor Aquarius.  With a few new rules upgrades and featuring dragon art by fantasy artist Larry Elmore this game is sure to please.
• WOW TCG Updated Class starters (Cryptozoic, $11.99) Updated cards for your favourite classes! The best way to get into this fun and exciting collectible card game.  Play it every Sunday in our ‘Battlegrounds’ tournaments.
